Calcutt to Folly Pie & back
(6 miles, 6 locks, 4 engine hours)
This was a long
awaited trip with Kirsty Steve and Toby - which had been put off several
times.
Originally, the
plan was for them to join us on our maiden voyage when we moved Per Angusta
from Rugby, but the awful weather and a lack of internal doors on the
boat put a stop to that, with Kirsty & Steve left with a 'Congratulations
on your new boat' cake to eat all by themselves. We planned another weekend
in February but Kirsty has been so ill the first 3 months of 2005 that
got cancelled. However, this weekend she is on the road to recovery and
we are having an acclimatising day out to get Toby used to his life jacket
before we take a longer trip.
We were so pleased
to have them on board - Steve has been one of our most enthusiastic followers
of the build. His first time on a narrowboat was when he walked through
Per Angusta whilst she was being fitted out. Today he gets to cruise on
her.
The weather was
bright and we went calmly through the locks on our way to the Folly Pie
- we reckon that this is a nice trip as an introduction to the canals
as there are the double locks at Calcutt and then the single locks at
Napton just after the Folly Pie pub, so people can see the variety you
can get on the canals.
We had a lovely
family day out and are now looking forward to a longer cruise in May.
